Recently, I came across a photo of myself at about three years old, standing on the balcony of our family home in Québec beside my grandmother. In the picture, we are doing exercises together. Small movements, simple stretches, shared laughter in the fresh air.
At the time, of course, I had no idea that this moment would shape my future. To me, it was just time spent with someone I loved. Looking back now, I realize it may have been one of my very first introductions to movement as care. Exercise as connection, health, and quality of life.
My grandmother understood something deeply important: movement keeps us engaged with life. It preserves independence, confidence, and dignity as we age.
Years later, that early experience quietly guided me toward kinesiology and physiotherapy. Throughout my career, I found myself drawn again and again to working with older adults and people navigating changes in mobility, strength, balance, and energy level, yet still wanting to live fully in their own homes and communities.
Today, I am the owner of a mobile physiotherapy and kinesiology clinic serving seniors throughout Victoria and Saanich, BC. I have the privilege of working with clients in their private homes as well as in long-term care residences, meeting people where they are most comfortable and where movement matters most, in real life.
In-home care allows therapy to become practical and meaningful. We practice climbing the actual stairs you use every day. We work on standing from your favorite chair, walking safely through familiar and maybe less familiar spaces, and building strength for the activities that give life purpose. Whether that’s gardening, cooking, or simply moving confidently around your home or out in the community.
Over time, I’ve come to understand that my role is about much more than rehabilitation. It’s about helping people maintain independence for as long as possible, creating strength and energy in reserve for life’s unexpected moments, and supporting quality of life at every stage of aging.
When I look at that childhood photo now, I see more than a memory. I see the beginning of a path. One that led me back to working alongside older adults, helping them move, adapt, and thrive.
Sometimes our life’s work finds us long before we recognize it.
And I feel incredibly grateful that mine began with movement, family, and care, on a balcony in Québec.
If you or a loved one would benefit from physiotherapy or kinesiology services delivered in the comfort of home, I would be honoured to help.
